Every season brings with it a mood, a rhythm… and a little mess. And if there’s one season that throws our homes and wardrobes a real challenge—it’s the monsoons.
Humidity, endless laundry, funky smells, wet footwear—sound familiar?
I’ve always believed that your wardrobe should feel like a well-composed outfit—easy to get into, functional, and something that makes you feel sorted (even when life’s pouring outside). So here’s a gentle guide to help you reset your wardrobe for the rains, the Sort Story way. Practical. Intentional. And a little calming.

1. Let the Monsoon Mood Set In 🌧️
Start by pulling out everything. Yes, everything.
Ask yourself:
- Will I wear this in the next 8 weeks?
- Will this dry if I wash it today and the sun doesn’t come out tomorrow?
- Is this fabric mould-prone?
Now, put away the heavy cottons, thick denim, delicate silks. Wrap them well and store with moisture absorbers (Like silica gel 10g packs or Absorbia).
You’ll thank yourself later.
2. Keep It Light & Breezy 👕

Quick-dry fabrics are your best friend this season—think rayon, poly-cotton, and even modal.
Choose darker colours—they forgive water splashes, muddy sidewalks, and surprise drizzles better than whites. I still can’t forgive the rains for the splatter marks on my white leggings.
A small section in your closet labelled “Rain-friendly rotation” can go a long way.
3. Air It Out (Your Closet Needs to Breathe Too) 🌬️
Moisture builds up silently, especially in built-in wardrobes. Once a week, just open the doors and let it air. Wipe shelves with a vinegar-water mix. Drop in some camphor or charcoal pouches (old-school tricks always win).
You can also use moisture absorbing ready-to-use, non-electric dehumidifiers like Absorbia or Unibond. They essentially convert the humid air to water that can be collected and disposed. You need to change them every 20-30 days though. They come in various sizes and can be selected, depending on your wardrobe/closet size.
Or if you reside in coastal cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Mangalore, Goa etc then you can also go for electric dehumidifiers which are a bit of an investment for the long run. If you are getting a new home made in the coastal areas, include them at the time of making the closets.
4. Keep Monsoon Accessories Handy 🧣
Umbrellas, scarves, light jackets—don’t make these a hunt-every-morning affair. Use a hanging organizer or a small basket near the front of your wardrobe. You don’t want to step out into a downpour still wondering where your umbrella went.

5. Rotate Your Favourites 👗
Let’s be honest, you’ll reach for the same 10-12 pieces over and over this season. Create an easy-to-access rail or shelf for them. No one has the time (or the energy) to dig deep into the wardrobe every damp morning.
6. It’s Okay to Simplify 🧼

There’s something comforting about having less during monsoons. Fewer clothes. Fewer decisions.
More drying space. More breathing room.
Trust me, even a little seasonal reset like this can make your days smoother and your wardrobe smell a whole lot fresher.
